Venus and Jupiter Tonight, June 1, 2015

DSC02572

Brilliant Venus and Jupiter gleam from the western sky this evening.  It’s 29 days before the Epoch Venus-Jupiter Conjunction of 2015.  Tonight Venus and Jupiter are 20 degrees apart.  Venus is 5 degrees to the lower left of Pollux.  Jupiter is 13 degrees to the lower right of the star Regulus.  During the next several nights, watch the motion of Venus compared to the starry background.  It closes on Jupiter at about 1/2 degree each evening.

For more about the conjunction, see this summary article.
